Muzzleloading revolvers and single-shot pistols sit in an unusual legal position: because they are not classified as firearms under federal law, they generally ship directly to your door with no FFL transfer. State rules vary and your own state may treat them differently, so check before ordering.

Shooting one is a slower and more deliberate process than anything with a cartridge. Powder, ball or conical, wad and cap are loaded chamber by chamber, and fouling builds fast enough that accuracy shifts over a session. Cleaning is not optional either — black powder residue is corrosive and will pit a bore within days if the gun goes into storage dirty.
