Over Under

An over-under gives you two barrels, two chokes and a single sight plane, which is why it dominates competitive clay shooting. Being able to fire an open choke at a close target and a tighter one at a distant target, from the same gun in the same movement, is the whole argument.

These are also the shotguns where fit is most worth paying for. A clay gun is mounted and swung rather than aimed, so stock dimensions — length of pull, drop at comb, cast — determine whether the pattern goes where you are looking. A well-fitted mid-priced over-under outshoots an expensive one that does not fit you, every time.
