A receiver is where a build legally and practically begins. Stripped lowers are the cheapest entry into a custom rifle and the most patient — you can assemble around one over months. Complete lowers save you a parts kit and a learning curve.

Uppers are where the character of the rifle lives: barrel length, gas system, handguard and calibre are all decided here, and swapping one changes the rifle completely without touching the serialised part. That is the real argument for the platform.

Receivers and frames are firearms in the eyes of the law and transfer exactly like a complete gun — to a licensed dealer, with a 4473 and a background check.
