SOG Specialty Knives came out of a specific piece of history — the brand began by reproducing the knife carried by the MACV-SOG reconnaissance units in Vietnam — and now covers folders, fixed blades, multi-tools and entrenching tools.

Their distinctive engineering is the compound leverage gearing in the PowerLock and PowerAccess multi-tools, which roughly doubles the force at the plier jaws for the same grip pressure. On a multi-tool, where the pliers are the reason to carry it at all, that is a real advantage rather than a specification. Their fixed blades lean toward the tactical end, with the Seal Pup among the most widely issued knives of its type.
