.350 Legend was designed for a specific regulatory situation: several midwestern states restrict deer hunting to straight-walled cartridges, and the existing options were either heavy-recoiling or ballistically poor. It is a straight-walled case that fits an AR-15 and performs well inside 200 yards.

For that job it is excellent — mild recoil, cheap compared with the alternatives, and effective on deer at realistic distances. Outside those states its case is weaker, because the same rifle in .223 or .300 Blackout does more elsewhere. Check your own state's regulations before buying, since the entire point of the cartridge is compliance with a rule that may not apply to you.
