About .380 ACP

.380 ACP exists to make very small pistols possible. It operates at low enough pressure that a simple blowback action works, which is how pocket pistols get as small and light as they do. For deep concealment, ankle carry, or a hand that cannot manage a heavier slide spring, it fills a role nothing else does.

Two honest caveats. Terminal performance is a genuine step below 9mm, and bullet selection matters more here than in any other defensive caliber — several loads either expand or penetrate adequately, not both. And the small light pistols that make .380 attractive are unpleasant to shoot in volume, which works against the practice that actually makes someone effective.
