7mm PRC is what 7mm Remington Magnum would be if designed today: a beltless case, a faster twist as standard, and a throat cut for the long high-BC bullets that were not available in 1962. The result shoots flatter and drifts less than the old magnum with broadly similar recoil.

It has been adopted quickly by rifle makers, so factory rifle choice is already good, and it feeds from a standard long action. The honest caveat is availability: it is a recent cartridge, and finding ammunition at a small-town counter hundreds of miles from home is not yet the certainty that .30-06 or 7mm Rem Mag is. Buy a hunting supply before you travel.
