Shipping to California
California is the most involved state we ship to, and almost all of the complication lands at your end rather than ours. Firearms and ammunition both route through a licensed California dealer, the DROS paperwork and waiting period run there, and suppressors cannot be shipped to the state at all.
Firearms
Every firearm ordered from htxguns.com ships to a licensed dealer in California — never to a home address. You pick the dealer at checkout, we send the gun and a copy of our licence, and you collect from them once the background check clears. The dealer sets their own transfer fee and collects it directly from you.
Ammunition
California requires ammunition to transfer through a licensed vendor, so it routes to an FFL exactly like a firearm does.
Suppressors and NFA items
California prohibits civilian suppressor possession, so we cannot transfer one there. This holds even with an approved Form 4 and a federal registration — federal approval does not override a state prohibition.
Optics, holsters, parts and gear
Everything outside firearms, ammunition and NFA ships direct to your address in California with no dealer and no paperwork.
What to have ready
California DROS paperwork and the waiting period run at your FFL. Your receiving dealer verifies this before they can release the firearm, so it is worth sorting out before you order rather than after the package arrives.
Common questions
Can you ship a firearm to California?
Yes. Every firearm ships to a licensed dealer in California that you choose at checkout, never to a home address. You collect it from them once the background check clears.
Can ammunition be shipped to my address in California?
Not to your home. California requires ammunition to transfer through a licensed dealer, so it ships to an FFL exactly as a firearm does.
Are suppressors legal in California?
No. California prohibits civilian suppressor possession, and federal registration does not override a state ban.
What do I need to bring to my California transfer?
California DROS paperwork and the waiting period run at your FFL. Your receiving dealer verifies it before releasing the firearm.
This page is our shipping policy, not legal advice. California's permit, waiting period, roster and magazine rules are applied by your receiving dealer at transfer, and several states' rules are currently being litigated. For the law itself, go to California DOJ Bureau of Firearms. Last reviewed 2026-08-16.
